summarizes agreements and next steps from the ECR Asia
Council meeting on October 17th, 2000.

Turnout
With exception of 1 country board and 4 regional
companies, the entire council was together.We encourage
the same level of commitment for future meetings.

3rd
Annual ECR Conference Greg Worthington gave
a last minute update on the conference. More than 700
delegates, 38 exhibitors, 65 speakers and 25 government
officials participated.

Christensen gave an update on the forum. 37 participants.

from new country boards
Japan (not officially formed)
Organisation
Not established yet. Relevant programs related to ECR
in progress. Low awareness of global movement. Benefit
is not recognized.
Key Activities
CPFR Developed. GCI Scorecard translated into Japanese
- waiting for TOP-LINE version. E-mart place - study
group - planet/transora.
EDI - protocol standards. ITF - code standardization.
Web based e-market place - P&G/UNICHARM & JUSCO/SEIBU.
New trade terms.
Next steps - How can ECR Asia Council help?
--KAO should take more leadership - Takagi-san, please
work through your Japan organization.
--Show more benefits through activities - This should
be encouraged through local collaboration and knowledge
sharing
--Encourage government involvement - Learn from Taiwan.
Greg/Ed please provide valuable insights to Japan. Can
be sent via Yoshitomo Tanaka
--The single most important task of the "country
board support" workgroup is to establish ECR JAPAN
by end 2001.

Formation in Oct.1999. Six organized retailers
+12 manufacturers. Organized trade taking off. GS1 act
as secretariat.
Progress
Completed scorecard - 20 scorecards will be validated
by PwC. ECR website has been established. Legal process
to establish board - 3 months time. Project teams has
been formed. Huge infrastructure constraints. Internet
exchange - B2B. Enlist subscribers. EDI linking to GCI.
Distribution constraints. To rope in wholesalers. Taxation
problems. PwC conducting industry survey - results to
determine objectives.
--Chairman suggested that the results of the survey
to be sent to ECR Secretariat in order that others could
benefit from this exercise. ECR India secretariat to
send to ECR ASIA Secretariat and communications group
to include a survey section in ECR ASIA web-site.
