GS1 is an important constituent of the EDI COUNCIL, the apex body under the Ministry of   Commerce, Government of India which spearheads the EDI movement in India within the import-export trade. The Council comprises a wide spectrum of EDI user community, service providers and Government bodies involved in import-export trade facilitation.

GS1 has been educating this apex body on the needs / benefits of using EANCOM standards (registered trademark of GS1 Global Office) and the GS1 numbering system in the EDI document exchange. Our 'principals', GS1 Global Office Belgium work closely with International EDI standards based organisation and are actively involved in evolution of emerging world standards on web based and XML EDI.

GS1 is also a constituent of the EDI pilot projects in the automobile and pharma sectors along with the user community and actively accessed in evolution of messaging standards through use of EANCOM standards (subset of UN/EDI FACT) and the GS1 numbering system.
