CSD has adopted barcoding technology to monitor and control incoming and outgoing supplies through automatic data capture of information on products received and dispatched.

CSD requisitioned the services of GS1, a non profit organisation promoted by the Ministry of Commerce, Govt. of India to advise on how such a vast range of products could be identified uniquely and universally. The GS1 system used worldwide by over 850,000 companies provides the ideal solution for such an application and is extensively used by all leading Supermarkets chains.

When fully implemented, this would benefit CSD tremendously in optimally managing its distribution centres with ease, convenience and in real time for 33 area depots and 3,000 retail outlets known as unit run canteens.
