GS1 barcodes - (Code -
GS1000-EL0017)
This module discusses the
advantages, uses and limitations of each of the GS1 endorsed
barcode symbologies. It covers all important aspects and
prepares students to understand applications of GS1 standards in
detail. Topics discussed include:
-
EAN/UPC

GS1 application
identifiers & ID keys - (Code - GS1000-EL0018)
This course will help you
understand the key principles of GS1 identification. You will
learn how the numbers are structured and how various data
elements interrelate. Besides, this module also provides
pointers to additional information sources. Topics discussed
include:
- The seven GS1
Identification Keys:
- GTIN (Global Trade
Item Number)
- GLN (Global
Location Number)
- SSCC (Serial
Shipping Container Code)
- GRAI (Global
Returnable Asset Identifier)
- GIAI (Global
Individual Asset Identifier)
- GSRN (Global
Service Relationship Number)
- GDTI (Global
Document Type Identifier)
- GS1 Application
Identifiers - a data dictionary for encoding information
into GS1 Bar Codes and EPC Tags
GS1 barcode
applications: trade items - (Code - GS1000-EL0019)
This Application course
combines the two technical concepts learnt in the two the
foundation courses GS1 Application Identifiers & ID Keys and GS1
Bar Codes. It introduces the concept of 'Areas of Application'
and covers the various requirements of Point-of-Sale, Supply
Chain, Open & Restricted Circulation and introduces the
increasingly important Healthcare area.
GS1 barcode applications:
logistic units - (Code - GS1000-EL0023)
Barcoding of logistic units
is a major application of GS1 standards. This module provides an
overview of how to barcode logistic units. Two key aspects of
GS1 standards are covered in this module -- Serial Shipping
Container Code (SSCC), which is used to identify the logistic
unit and GS1 Logistics Label, which provides the format to
encode the SSCC (and any other required data) on the logistic
unit.
GTIN allocation for FMCG
- (Code - GS1000-EL0024)
Consumer items are uniquely
identified with the GS1 identification standard called Global
Trade Identification Number (GTIN). This module covers
critically important issues like how to assign a GTIN correctly,
barcoding for a Retail point of sale, changes to retail products
and GTIN allocation, handling promotions, product groupings,
etc.
