DGFT’s Track and Trace Requirements for Exported Pharma Products

This full-day technical workshop is designed to help pharma companies implement with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade’s (DGFT) track and trace requirements as mentioned in the Public Notice 13/2015-2020.

As per this Notice, in order to implement a traceability system to prevent counterfeits and authenticate products, the DGFT requires all exported pharmaceutical consignments from India to be marked and coded with GS1 barcodes at various packaging levels. The Notice also directs exporters to maintain and upload this coding information along with product hierarchy (parent-child relationships) to DGFT’s central portal ‘DAVA’ before the consignment is released for sale or distribution.

The full-day implementation workshop is divided into four sessions:

  • Hierarchy of product packaging
  • Logistic carton codes
  • Barcode requirements for different packaging levels
  • Common mistakes in designing barcodes

“We subscribed for GS1 barcodes 5 years back when first DGFT circular came, in 2011. At that time, there was a lot of confusion in the industry but GS1 India staff has always remained helpful. I understand it is a complicated subject and every company has a lot of queries, but I have never seen any GS1 India staff getting irritated. With such a short team, GS1 India is achieving great customer satisfaction.”
