INDIA: High Court Confirms Barcodes as Certification Trademarks
In a notable decision, the High Court of Delhi enforced a certification trademark for barcodes. In the matter of GS1 India v. Barcodes SL & Others [CS (Comm 147/2020)], the court on May 29, 2020, granted an ad-interim injunction restraining the defendant, Barcodes SL, from allocating barcode numbers starting with the prefix “890.”

Till now approximately 23,000 wagons and 1200 coaches have been fitted with RFID tags
Indian Railways have roughly 2.5 lakh wagons, 60,000 coaches and 9,000 locomotives in its possession. The challenge that comes with such a big inventory is in its management and knowing what is located where. Also it is important to accurately capture data while in transit and use this for more efficient utilization of its rolling stock.
