GS1 DataMatrix is a two-dimensional (2D) barcode that consists of black and white cells/modules, arranged in a square or rectangular matrix. It is a compact barcode that can encode a large amount of data (2,335 alphanumeric characters or 3116 numbers) in a smaller space. This 2D barcode type is the preferred choice of the healthcare sector as it meets traceability requirements, enables direct part marking (ex., marking on surgical equipment, etc.), and allows encoding of dynamic data at high production speeds.
