From sellers to consumers - empowering the entire retail journey

GS1 standards help create transparent and efficient retail processes by facilitating a structured and standardised flow of product data. These standards are strengthening collaboration among retail industry stakeholders by enabling easy accessibility throughout the supply chain via DataKart. DataKart-powered Smart Consumer application further empowers consumers with easy access to brand owner-uploaded accurate product information and also allows them to see product reviews, provide genuine feedback, and make informed decisions.

DataKart is the national product data repository that allows businesses to upload, store, and manage product information in one place.

The future of barcoding

The industry is rapidly adopting 2D barcode technology and has set a target for retailers to transition to 2D barcodes at the point of sale (POS) or point of care (POC). By the end of 2027, retailers will need to upgrade their scanners to be compatible with both 2D barcode and 1D barcode scanning. Unlike traditional 1D barcodes, 2D barcodes are capable of storing detailed information, empowering consumers with accurate and authentic product information with every purchase. The introduction of 2D barcodes is transforming the way businesses engage with consumers, enhancing both transparency and efficiency.

Next-generation barcodes, or 2D barcodes, can be scanned with smartphones to access information.

National Industry Forum for Retail (NIFR)

NIFR provides a national platform for collaboration, networking and knowledge sharing between trading partners in the retail industry. NIFR members address challenges faced in the supply & demand chain processes and collaboratively work together to solve them.

NIFR was set up in January 2019 with a vision to develop a standardised, consumer-centric, and vibrant omni-channel retailing experience. Its members include brand owners, retailers, and online marketplaces such as Godrej, L’Oréal, Reliance Retail, Nestlé, Flipkart Wholesale, Amazon, Hindustan Unilever Limited, and others. Out of the several supply chain & demand chain issues that significantly impact operational efficiencies, NIFR members are collaborating on addressing best practices & standards adoption, logistics standardisation, and enabling seamless consumer experience in omnichannel retailing.
