Global Location Number (GLN) is a globally standardised identifier that uniquely identifies companies/legal entities and locations, such as manufacturing locations, warehouses, hospitals, loading docks, or a specific organisational function/subdivision/department. GLN allows supply chain stakeholders to get the answer of ‘which’ function/department within an organisation and ‘where’ in the supply chain. Various government and industry bodies use GLNs to inform trading partners about companies and their corresponding location information.

Who can register for a GLN?

Companies can register for a GLN for each of their manufacturing units, warehouses, and other operational locations. Before registering for a GLN, please consider the following points:

If you are already registered with GS1 India, you can generate a GLN directly from the DataKart portal for your own locations (not for your trading partners) using your own GS1 Company prefix (GCP) number.
If you are not yet registered with GS1 India, you can register by completing the GLN registration form and paying the applicable fees.
A GLN can only be registered for your own/rented location.
If you collaborate with a contractual manufacturer, that location can also be registered for a GLN.

Documents required for registration

Applicant company's PAN card or the proprietor's PAN card for a proprietorship firm
Applicant company's GST/VAT/TIN certificate
ROC of the applicant company in the case of LLP/Private Limited/Limited.
Proof of fee payment.
Address proof of the location (if you own the premises) or agreement copy (if taken on contract/rent).
A cancelled cheque copy of the company.
IEC certificate of the company.
