Allocation of GS1 Identifiers
GS1 identification keys are used to uniquely and universally identify products, assets, services, locations, documents and more. Based on your need, you can apply for your GS1 identifier below.
GTIN-13 for EAN barcodes
The 13 digit GTIN code is the most common identifier in the GS1 system, which is used in EAN barcodes found on most consumer items meant for sale at the Retail Point of Sale (PoS). GS1 India offers 13-digit GTINs for use with barcodes. We offer ranges of 100, 1000, 10,000 or 100,000 GTIN-13 codes. GTIN-13 barcode subscriptions need to be renewed before their renewal due dates.
GTIN-12 for UPC barcodes
GTINs represented through a 12-digit code are commonly referred to as a UPC-A or UPC-12. These codes are still in use across North America and your trading partner may sometimes request that you use these instead of the standard GTIN-13 that is used globally today. We can provide you with a range of 100, 1,000, 10,000 or 100,000 GTIN-12 codes. GTIN-12 barcode subscriptions need to be renewed before their renewal due dates.
GTIN-8 for smaller barcodes
GTIN-8 (8-digit product code) is allocated only to products where enough space is not available on the packaging to use GTIN-13 or UPC-A. Companies requesting a GTIN-8 code, must also have a valid GTIN-13 subscription from GS1 India. Before applying for a GTIN-8 product code, organisations need to send their product details on company letterhead along with packaging samples to GS1 India. This is to determine if a GTIN-8 as per GS1 standards, can be allocated to the product. In event of allocation of GTIN-8, both the GTIN-8 and GTIN-13 barcode subscriptions need to be renewed on their respective expiry dates. The fee for allocation of GTIN-8 code is ₹1000 (excluding service tax) per product code per year. Payment can be made only by Cheque/DD/NEFT.
Please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org for GTIN-8 allocations.
GLN for locations
Global Location Numbers (GLNs) are used for unique and universal identification of all physical locations and legal entities such as warehouses, factories, stores, hospitals, farms etc. GLNs are a prerequisite for GS1 eCom message or to access information from the Global Data Synchronisation Network. GLN is also used as unique farm/plot identifier within Global G.A.P. GLN is recognised by UN/EDIFACT (United Nations, Electronic Data Interchange for Administration, Commerce and Transport) for identifying sender and recipient of EDI messages and is referenced within ISO standards as ISO 6523.
